Asphalt 4
Bored of the Global Race that came pre-installed on our 5800? If you love to get your hands behind the wheel, then Asphalt4 Elite Racing by Gameloft is the game you gotta have on your 5800.
Racing games are one of the most popular genres across several platforms. While the NFS and Forzas have quiet a following in the gaming platforms of PSs and Xboxs, our 5800 is not far behind either. While the GT Racer showed of the gaming capability of our 5800s, Asphalt4 is now yearning for some space in the racing genre of games for 5800. Is Asphalt4, a worthy successor for Global Race? Hit on the jump button to find out.
Screenshots-Thats a very tempting background in the welcome screen, ain’t it? We wish the graphics as good as the one in the welcome screen but we are not complaining, for its more a hardware limitation. Coming to gameplay, there is no accelerometer based control as we were hoping it would be after being addicted with GT Racer. Gameloft have instead opted for touch based control for steering the vehicles: tap on right to steer right and vice-versa.
Controls apart, Asphalt4 is a typical racing game with illegal racing competitions where in the meaner a driver you are, the higher your score is. There are points for drifting, bumping into your competitors and even for destroying the enemy vehicle and ofcourse there is nitro boost!
Gaming options include as many as 10 cars and bikes from some of the best known names in the racing industry along with circuits that are spread across Monte Carlo and Paris in Europe to Shanghai in the east to New York, and Beverly Hills in the Americas.
What we Like?
- Impressive gameplay options
What we don’t like?
- Graphics is kinda immature (At times we felt like we were riding right through the tunnel walls)
- Lack of accelerometer based controls
Verdict
Asphalt4 is one of the promising games from Gameloft, who are one of the most popular developers across several platforms. The present version looks it has been a direct port from a game meant for the first generation of iPhone. Our 5800 is much more capable than that and the game can be designed to fare much better than the present version. However, the game does have some cool gaming options and its totally worth a try just for the various options available. Further, Gameloft is presently offering this game as a free download at the Ovi store, so waste no time in downloading this game for who knows when Ovi/Gameloft will pull the plug on this.
P.S- We have noticed that the ovi store link is not available across all countries. If you happen to be one of those unfortunate ones, you will have to shell out $4 for this racing game.
